"Using business creation, supply chain evaluation, and aftercare aid. By creating enterprise opportunities for vulnerable communities, offering social services to survivors and those at-risk to human trafficking, and evaluating the use of forced labor in mainstream supply chains, Not For Sale works to ensure that no one is for sale." (http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/about/)

Total raised to date: $1,598.42

Fall/Winter 2012-13 Sales Donation
"International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to secure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to ensure that public justice systems - police, courts and laws - effectively protect the poor." (IJM.org)

$429.55 was donated to International Justice Mission to help aid in the effort of providing justice in countries where the poor are continually exploited. We raised $129.55 over the original goal that I set. God is so good!

"Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause." -Isaiah 1:17

Spring/Summer 2012 Sales Donation

We did it! We raised $368 in profit, $18 over our goal! It is an amazing feeling to donate that money to a wonderful organization like World Vision. To be more specific, the money will be used towards building and running Trauma Recovery Centers for women and children who have been victims of human trafficking. Watch the video by clicking the link below to get more details about World Vision and what they are doing to help restore lives.

Thank you so much for all your support! It truly means so much to me. I feel so blessed that others have taken an interest in this project. If you want more information on human trafficking and how to take a stand, a great book to read is Not For Sale by David Batstone (one of my favorite books!) or check out http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/

Total raised to date: $868.87

Winter 2011 Sales Donation

I just want to start by giving a HUGE thank you to all who supported the beginning of this journey by ordering scarves! I was so moved by the number of people who wanted to purchase my scarves and support a cause that is so dear to my heart. I feel so blessed by everyone's generosity. I honestly cannot thank you enough! With that said, I am so excited to announce that together we raised exactly $500.87!!! 87 cents over my goal for the winter season! God is so good!

The money was donated to one of my favorite organizations: Women at Risk International (WAR). More specifically the money was designated to WAR's scholarship fund, which helps rehabilitate women who have been saved from human trafficking. The money donated will put one woman through cosmetology school, giving her and her family a steady income. More importantly, the education she receives from this scholarship will provide her with value and worth in the eyes of her family and community, protecting her from being resold to a brothel. It is very common for women saved from human trafficking to be resold (often by family members) after returning home because they are looked upon as "shameful" and holding no value to their community. This scholarship is literally saving a woman's life and providing a future for her children.

If you are interested in learning more about human trafficking, here are a few books that I highly recommend reading:

  • Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof
  • God in a Brothel by Daniel Walker
  • Escaping the Devil's Bedroom by Dawn Herzog Jewell
  • A Crime So Monstrous by Benjamin Skinner
"Scholars estimate the total number of modern-day slaves is greater than at any point in history" (Skinner, 2008).

"It appears that more girls have been killed in the last fifty years, precisely because they are girls, than men were killed in all the battles of the twentieth century" (Kristof, 2009).

"Sex trafficking is the largest form of modern day slavery in the world today and is a massive global industry earning organized criminal networks billions of dollars annually" (Walker, 2001).

"Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me......And the King will tell them, 'I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you are doing it for me!' " - Matthew 25:34-40
